SUMMARY:TBLC Weekend Learning Intensive: Hope and the Spirit of Awakening
DESCRIPTION:DOES THE DHARMA OFFER HOPE?\nAccording to the Buddha’s First Noble Truth\, or the “Truth of True Sufferings\,” conditioned existence is\, by nature\, impermanent\, unsatisfactory\, and pervaded by suffering. One who desires to enter the Buddhist path must reckon with this basic fact. Given this opening emphasis on suffering\, where is there room in the Buddhist Teachings for discussions of hope? As we navigate the many challenges of our present world\, how do we balance a realistic assessment of our human predicament with joyful aspiration for enlightenment? In this learning intensive\, TBLC-associated scholars Venerable Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe and Professor Guy Newland will explore Buddhist discussions of hope and will illuminate hopefulness as an essential part of a bodhisattva’s compassionate commitment. \nLearning Intensive Daily Schedule:\n   Saturday\, June 20: 11:00am-5:00pm\n   Sunday\, June 21: 11:00am-5:00pm \nFees:\n   One day\, daytime only (includes lunch): $60\n   Two days\, daytime only (includes lunch for each day): $120 \nHow to pay: In person attendees: TBLC is not able to process advanced payments or reimbursements for cancellations.
